Hi, Matty! I’ll start off by saying that after you left, everyone was saying that you were a sure vote for Gillian, so I’m glad to hear that your vote is still undecided. To address some of your comments-
The reason I talk about getting you out of the game so much is because you were such a threat. Deny it all you want, honey, but you were saying the same things to me, Lauren and Reem. When we compared notes, your messages to us were almost identical, down to wanting to go to the end with each of us. I don’t think you realized just how close Reem and I were, because you made final deals with both of us and also talked to each of us about how the other was a threat. You moved seamlessly between both sides of the tribe, and had you not tried to pin the Devens vote on Chris and then Randy, you might have been able to keep floating between us for much longer. Your social game got sloppy at the end, but until that point had been practically flawless.
I really, really like you as a person. You’re sweet and smart, and have one of the best senses of humor here. But I couldn’t vote solely because I liked you. I had to vote with people who I knew would consistently have my back, and you had voted differently than me too many times for me to be sure of that.
You say that creating the chats didn’t help me, but I beg to differ. Like I already said, the chats allowed conversations to open up between me and Chris, and also me and Randy. Me being the first in Randy’s ear was the start of a relationship between us that eventually led to Randy flipping and voting out Eric with us. Having a common enemy is a very strong way of bringing people together, and I admit, I vilified you for that reason. I’m truly sorry that it had to be you, because like I said, I really like you as a person. But as a player, you had to go so that I had a clearer picture of what reliable numbers each side had.
I also want to talk about why I started targeting you in the first place, before Aurora was voted off. The fact of the matter is that my girls wanted Eric out, and I didn’t want him to go. At that point in my game, Eric was the biggest target here and I wanted to use him as a shield, mainly to help protect Reem, another huge target. So I brought your name out because, since you were playing both sides, both sides would lose a number and minimize the blood we got on our hands. Obviously you caught wind of this and got into Aurora’s ear, proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that you were one of the most dangerous players still left in the game. You were able to turn a situation just like that and I started seeing you as a true puppetmaster.
After Reem was voted off, Gillian started taking more initiative. Reem had told her that she should stick with me and Charlie, and I trusted that she would because she really values Reem’s advice. Between Lauren, Eric, Randy and Chris, I didn’t have a strong opinion on who should go first. So I fed Gillian’s ego, let her take charge the way she wanted to, and at the same time minimized my threat level because of that. Gillian was feeling very abused by people at that point, and I knew that if I wanted to keep her as an ally, I would have to let her take charge of a few votes. Since we had the same targets in mind, I didn’t see any harm in this, and in fact saw it as a great way to solidify my numbers with her and Charlie.
The reason I lied to you about voting you off was because of what you accomplished before Aurora’s vote off. You single-handedly changed the vote after just hearing mention of your name, and I didn’t want to risk having something similar happen. I had a very shrewd idea of just how capable you were, and couldn’t take any chances.
Thank you for your questions, and I hope these answers clarify some things for you. No matter who you vote for, I look forward to getting to know you after this, and no hard feelings from me!
